By letting Beltre walk the Red Sox will recover a first round pick which allows them to be players in this years FA market. That means they can go out and get a guy like Crawford or most likely Werth without losing their first round pick in the June draft. Considering the Red Sox's depth at SP, the players they are losing does not affect them too much long term. What I'm trying to say is that the draft picks they will get from Beltre will be compensation for losing the prospects in the A-Gon deal. It's totally a win for the Red Sox. I don't question this move one bit.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6712575959604613087.post-32478136538470568512010-12-04T17:49:20.102-05:002010-12-04T17:49:20.102-05:00Your statement about the Sox pitching being bound ...Your statement about the Sox pitching being bound to have a better and more consistent season is questionable. While they did not have the year many thought they would that doesn't mean they're going to be any better next season.

While getting Gonzalez is a great move, I question if it is better than re-signing Beltre and keeping the prospects. The Sox got roughly (I don't know the exact stats) the same offensive production from Beltre that Gonzo had last year. Re-signing Beltre would have still given them solid defense at 1st and 3rd and it would have kept them from having to move Youkilis again.

Decent move, we'll see how it works out.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12168671104653355304noreply@blogger.com
